TLC provides child counselling and mental health support in schools, including primary, secondary and higher education.

Each school has a dedicated Child & Young Person (CYP) mental health professional who is integral to the school team. They work closely with pupils, families and staff to improve emotional wellbeing and provide mental health support for the whole school.

We collect data to measure our impact on mental health in schools, which helps us to review and improve our in-school support. Our support uses evidence-based methods, backed by research.

We regularly collect evidence and data about the work we offer and use it to measure our impact on young people and the school. This helps us to constantly improve our services.

With TLC’s help, schools become more ‘mentally healthy’ – and society saves money.

“For every £1 invested, our counselling service in primary schools can return £8 to society by improving outcomes for each child and young person, according to research from Pro Bono Economics”.

In addition to one-to-one counselling support our CYP Psychotherapists can offer group support, educational sessions and parent events.

Our work has a profound effect on children’s mental health, illustrated by our statistics and feedback.

Feedback:

“It was really easy to talk to my therapist even though I find it hard to talk to people, she made it easier for me. I have recommended the therapy to some friends as I know it will help them too.”

“I wish that I would have known about unhelpful thinking habits beforehand because I usually overthink situations and cause myself to be more panicked. So now I sometimes recognise that I am thinking unhelpfully and stay calm. I wish I had more sessions because they have been so helpful”

15 Year old

“I found the butterfly hug, breathing techniques and meeting other children really helpful because it made me know that I am not alone. Making a safe box was fun too”.

11 Year old

“I have learned a lot of new ways that I can cope with my emotions that are more helpful to me. I learned to stay calm and not panic. I have enjoyed learning new ways of helping myself.”
