Menopause

The menopause is a natural part of aging but can also be brought on by some medical treatments such as surgery to remove the ovaries or womb, or chemotherapy or radiotherapy to treat cancer.

The NHS says that menopause usually occurs between 45 and 55, with the average age in the UK being 51. But symptoms can begin earlier as your body starts to make the transition – known as the perimenopause – and carry on after.

Common symptoms can include

  • Hot flushes
  • Night sweats
  • Reduced libido
  • Depression and anxiety…..

But… menopause is a very personal journey for everyone and therapy needs to reflect this. Not all women have hot flushes and the majority don’t suffer from depression. Some symptoms can become more problematic and concerning, such as forgetfulness, being easily distracted and unable to concentrate, physical changes, fatigue and unpredictable emotions are, well…unpredictable! These can all impact on day-to-day life and how we feel about ourselves and our abilities.

Menopause does affect our feelings and it’s symptoms can contribute to feelings of sadness, anxiety and low self-esteem. This, in addition to juggling the other areas of our lives (relationships, children, work) can become very overwhelming. Therapy allows the space to explore what is at the root of any issues. It can offer tailored and wide-ranging help by addressing concerns in the context of culture, a person’s history and present, their family, relationships and how society regards ageing woman – as well as menopausal symptoms.

Therapy allows women a safe space to explore a range of issues affecting their wellbeing, of which the menopause may be one. It can also help to develop strategies to cope with issues such as working hours, juggling family and work life and body image.

Menopause Workshops

Workshop: All Things Peri & Meno - £35

You can’t choose NOT to have menopause, but you can choose HOW to have menopause. Join Us!

This workshop is for anyone in their late 30’s and beyond. You may be early perimenopausal or been experiencing symptoms for some years.

We unpick the confusion of the mid life years, and leave with evidence based, actionable tips to implement, to manage, decrease, and alleviate all 54 symptoms of menopause, from hot flushes, poor sleep, joint pain, anxiety, weight gain, either instead of, or alongside HRT.

Menopause symptoms aren’t just one thing. To put it simply, when our systems are unbalanced and overworked, we may start to experience symptoms.

It’s our job to create awareness and support, while together we find answers that help you on your journey.

We learn about oestrogen dominance, what that means (usually weight gain around the belly!) and how we can combat it.

How our liver and gut play a massive part in how our menopause symptoms play out, from weight gain, mood and even joint pain.

We explore how the type, timings and amounts of food and exercise can impact our symptoms and how lack of sleep can increase symptoms and how we can improve this.

You’ll come away from this workshop feeling informed and ready to take on your menopause years, with advice, motivation and empowerment to help manage all of your symptoms including weight management. Some of these changes can be felt within days!

Opportunity to ask questions.

Support from others on the same journey.

With the right information and a little support it just might easier than you think.

“I was recommended TLC by someone I know that had also used the service.
It was a very welcoming environment and my therapist was lovely and put me at ease, as I felt quite anxious before the appointments. During my therapy I have learned to think differently which will make a massive change in my day-to-day life. The literature I have been provided is also very useful. Sian listened and talked me through everything every step of the way. I cannot think of anything that would have made my therapy any better, I am just really happy with my experience”
